Joggili wooden weather house

Kitsch and a dust collector, as this house may be, it can read the weather!  Made in West Germany, this house used to have flowers and moss planted all around the house and roof. Fine weather days, the lady comes out standing with a posy of flowers and rain, the man who is wearing a rain coat comes out!  Unfortunately this Joggili is missing a therometer and chimney,so it can no longer tell the weather :(

Kidz Storage picture frame

Elijah asked for a frame to store his drawings.  Made and painted up this frame whereby the latest drawing is placed in the front of frame and old drawings are stored behind. One way of ensuring your kidz drawings are kept in a safe place without getting lost or damaged and also you can see your kids drawing abilities improve!  This is Elijah's drawing of a fire engine! Fireman/engines are the flavour of the moment! As seen in previous blog, Elijah requested a firemans outfit!

Early 1920's

Found this lovely post card. Based on the age of the cars and style of the ladies frocks!, would say it is early 1920's.

the writing on the reverse writer says the photograph was taken on the beach.  Printed by Happy Snaps, Durban.  It looks like they were strolling along the quay near the habour entrance as the background looks like the Bluff!

Elijah the Fireman!

All little boys grow up and want to be a fireman!  Elijah asked me to make him a fireman's outfit for his 6th birthday. (It had to be red!) Found the fabric @ Waste Centre + Craft Concept. Then the creative juices had to come out to draft the pattern. Instead of drafting the jacket, I searched through old Burda magazines for a pattern I could alter. (Fireman jackets are loose!) The jacket has pockets (all boys want to put things into their pockets!)  Found the perfect belt at Waste Centre for only R4! (can't make one for that price!)
I made the fireman badge as well as his name tag coating it with epoxy.  (Elisa has a name tag as well as a Nurse 911 badge)
The trousers I drafted and they also have pockets.
Elijah could not wait to wear his Fireman's Outfit!

Vintage Inspiration!

As a little girl, I had friends - the "Coombes girls" who had quite a few Barbies.  All I wanted was a Barbie for Christmas.  Was privileged to get the traditonal blonde Barbie with the black and white striped costume, and her arms even bent. Sadly the one bending arm was faulty, so it had to be returned to USA.  I unfortunatley I only received the replaced Barbie a year later (thats how bad postage used to be!).  they sent me the Jackie O styled Barbie.  See below pic.

I love the twin sets that the likes of Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly used to wear!
Found this lovely Jersey Clip at an antique fair probably 20 years ago and have enjoyed wearing it.

Now that autumn and winter is around the corner, I have made some more up-to-date Jersey Clips which you will be able to buy from Mooi, Miss Happ stand at the I Heart Market and soon to be in other shops or welcome to purchase them directly from me!

Beano gated

Beano is my beautiful "house cat," he never leaves home, hence his size. Lately he has taken to scaling the 6ft Entabeni wall to visit his furry ferial friend.  So, he has been gated for a few days!

RAF sweetheart brooch

Jimmy, my dear friend gave me this most precious RAF sweetheart brooch.  Pilots during the 2nd World War gave their loved ones this brooch before flying off to fight for their country.  Jimmy gave this to his darling wife, Rita.  When Rita passed away, he said I could choose any piece of her jewellery and this is the special gift I chose.  The ribbon behind the brooch was given to Jimmy when he was released from the RAF, supposedly to proudly hang his medals from (which he never collected!)
